Another case of the Mondays

Yes, it's that time again. Anyone out there feeling it, too?

The weekend was fun. Saturday's show at Prospero's Books was a blast. We were silly and loose and sloppy, but it was a great time. We were having so much fun, in fact, that we did something I just about never do. We played songs that we haven't even gotten "down" yet!

We whipped out our cover of Billy Joel's Uptown Girl, and it went over really well. I forgot one of the verses and had to "doo doo doo" my way through it, and it didn't sound right without Chad (our new guitarist), but it was still great. Then to add to the nonsense we tried to play "I just need my car" at the end of the night. Pat wasn't even at our last practice when we worked it through, and again, it didn't sound right without Chad, but I wanted to see what it would feel like to play it live. It held up well. It's not a set-closer, though we did close this set with it, but it's a great song and I can't wait to fill it out completely.

On Sunday I introduced two very non-Monty Python friends from work to the Holy Grail. That was cool.

I'm eager to hit the studio again. I want to get Uptown Girl to tape as soon as possible. But I'm honoring the pact I made before we recorded Kinda Like Fireworks and thus I will not be borrowing any money to record, this time. So buy some stuff from us! It'll help us get our new tunes to tape. Only $5K to go. :)

Telecaster Bass VI

w00t!

Look what I spent most of the evening assembling, then playing -

You can't necessarily tell from these photos, but this is no standard telecaster. The neck is a Warmoth Baritone conversion neck with a 28.25" scale length (2.75" longer than a standard tele) and she's tuned a full octave lower than a normal guitar, like a Fender Bass VI! The low E string, tuned to the same pitch as a bass, is a 0.95! You can see how thick it is in the second pic. The "high" E is a .25!

The sound is phenomenal, and the compound radius and extra fret or so on the Warmoth neck are awesome. I'm already doing some stuff with this guitar that I could never do with one in standard tuning. The timbre of the strings played high up the neck is otherworldly. I can see now why the Cure use a Bass VI constantly.

But fear not, I'm not going to become a Robert Smith ripoff. I've already got one tune that I'm going to play on this guitar and it's not very cure-like. I'm sure more will follow. That's the whole point of a new guitar - to inspire new songs through new sounds. It never fails.

'Course now I'm going to have to lug four guitars to every gig, but whatever. It's fun.

lyrics - I just need my car

A new one. Just sharin'

I just need my car

tonight
I drive your Honda
from Berkeley Heights
to Pensacola

you’ve got
my broken Saturn
my broken heart
I sense a pattern

I moved
to land a job
to find a home
where you grew up

but while
I met your brother
you went and found
another lover

I don’t want to see you
I really don’t care how you are
cut the chit-chat
I just need my car

eight frickin’ highways
to meet at some bumblefuck bar
you’re not worth it
I just need my car

eight days
since you first told me
I was amazed
now I’m just lonely

I guess
it’s really better
this happened now
rather than later

you know
it’s so Geraldo
I left the stage
you stole the show

but wait
the part that’s funny
despite the crap
I still love you, honey

I don’t want to see you
I really don’t care how you are
cut the chit-chat
I just need my car

eight frickin’ highways
to meet at some bumblefuck bar
you’re not worth it
I just need my car

yeah they say to make it good
you gotta do the things you should
and so for our joint cause
I put our love on pause
I left you on a limb
and then you fell for him

I don’t want to see you
I really don’t care how you are
cut the chit-chat
I just need my car

eight frickin’ highways
to meet at some bumblefuck bar
you’re not worth it
I just need my car

New guitarist, gigs, etc.

Yo!

Never think for one microsecond that we're not busy as hell over here at Sexy Accident central. We neither sleep nor eat nor brake (much) in our unending quest to pummell the masses to pixie dust with our powerful pop.

First off, we've got a number of gigs coming up this month.

This Saturday June 7 at 9pm, we rock the Brick with Abigail Murphy and Ste. Simone

Then on Friday, June 13, we play a special Fathers' Day Shopping Party at The Foundation hosted by lillibelle and Jp wine bar with food by Arnones Cafe'. The "My Dad Rocks" live music stage will feature the talent of local bands The Life & Times, namelessnumberheadman and (of course) The Sexy Accident. A live mannequin fashion exhibit will feature Kansas City designers christianMICHAEL and Cali Roberta with the Pink Pistols. This Fathers' Day Shopping Party is from 5pm - 10pm. admission is $5 (kids under age 12 free).

At both of these shows, we will continue our amazing, at-live-shows-ONLY deal of offering you a copy of our new album, KINDA LIKE FIREWORKS and a super-comfy American Apparel T-Shirt for only $10 freakin' dollars. Woo!

In other news, we've got a new guitarist. His name is Chad Toney, and he'll be joining us on stage at our July Gig at Jerry's Bait shop, where we will deploy at least one new song for the first time.

And finally, for those who like to purchase CDs from this city's fine purveyors of plastic discs, KINDA LIKE FIREWORKS is now on sale at Prospero's Books, Zebedee's RPM, Needmore Discs and Streetside records in Westport.

All our best,
